With an election call pending, federal Conservatives are now clarifying the intent of their fixed election date legislation. Government Whip and local MP Jay Hill now says the legislation was only intended to remove a majority government’s ability to manipulate election dates to their own purposes. However, he says in the case of the current minority governments, opposition parties still hold the power to manipulate election dates by refusing to cooperate. In our riding so far the only other candidate confirmed to be running is Betty Beckering, who will run for the NDP. We have made contact with the two other major parities and to date they have not named a candidate for Prince George Peace River. Meanwhile, Liberal leader Stephane Dion has said, “The Prime Minister should be spending less time trying to dream up contrived reasons for forcing an election, and more time addressing the serious issues facing our country, not the least of which is an ongoing food safety crisis.” Prime Minister Harper is expected to ask the Governor General to dissolve Parliament Sunday and call an election for October 14th. Neymar will be in the Paris Saint-Germain team to face Liverpool but Thomas Tuchel would not confirm where the Brazil superstar will play. The world’s most expensive player sat out Friday’s Ligue 1 win at home to Saint-Etienne after returning from international duty. But Tuchel said Neymar will be in his starting line-up for Tuesday’s Champions League opener away to last season’s beaten finalists. Zlatan wasn’t even the best player in LA! Neymar has played in a number 10 role at times this season but Tuchel would not reveal whether the forward will feature in that position or from the left flank, while he is also keeping his plans for Angel Di Maria to himself.”I will not tell, of course,” Tuchel said at Monday’s news conference. “What is sure is that he will play, but in which role, I will not tell!”It’s never a risk to trust Di Maria. In which role though, same as Neymar – I cannot tell you. It would make it very easy for Liverpool to prepare.”The showdown at Anfield presents a difficult test for a PSG side that has struggled in the business end in the tournament in recent years, failing to move further than the quarter-finals since 1995.That has not deterred Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp from believing PSG are among the favourites for the Champions League title but Tuchel is not about to get caught up in favourites talk, as he does not think it brings any positives for his team. “We can talk about this for hours and hours, but it doesn’t bring you one centimetre closer to the title,” Tuchel added. “It doesn’t make sense to talk about things that happen next year. We like the challenge to play here and the challenge for our group.”In my opinion, a challenge, a game like this can never come too early. This will bring out the best in us, get us used to this pressure, this kind of level. There is no problem with that. What we need tomorrow is the best performance we have.”You can never be comfortable against Jurgen’s teams, or at Anfield, but this kind of opponent, atmosphere, brings out the best in us. All over the world, appointment to Statutory Boards are not a bi-partisan act, is simply a government’s appointment of its supporters who campaigned passionately about a certain ministry and how they can bring about improvements to that ministry. The Bill which is set to be debated before the House of Assembly on the 1 year anniversary of the election of the new Government, will deliver a fatal blow to the legacy of JAGS and what he as a person, his Party and his Government stood for. The Bill will give the Governor the power to do as he likes and act as he pleases without any reference to the Minister with the authority for that particular statutory Board. The Boards’ membership will immediately be reduced which means staunch supporters of the present Government who have been recently appointed to these Boards will very likely see their appointments rescinded and may no longer be able to serve on a board nor make a contribution to their country via their Board Appointment. What is most troubling to us the electorate, is this – to what end is this measure being taken? Why is it that the overseas Colonial powers want this power and authority removed from the hands of the elected officials and put in the Governor’s Hands? Is it because the country is broke and cannot afford to pay the measly sums to Board members monthly? No! because the Premier indicated we have 101 Million in surplus. Is it because the Board members are incompetent? No, it is not, as many of these Board members have degrees, life or work experience in the industry related to the Boards upon which they sit .Then what is it? From the pattern of the British’s’ behavior over the last 9 years, one can only conclude it is because they are of the view that the Board Members and the Country as whole cannot self-govern and this view though it pains me to say in this day and age may be directly due to certain historical, abhorrent racial ideologies. It is because the Board Members are Turks and Caicos Islanders. It is because the British do not trust the Board members. It is because it is in line with the FCO policy of having a “greater British presence” in TCI.How is it, that this JAGS’ ideal based Government can sit in silence and light the fire that will burn us all to ashes by abdicating and transferring its power to the Governor? Is it because the Premier is drawing on her experience as a former “YES SIR”, Consultative Forum member and simply giving in to every whim of the British and has put the fear of God in her elected colleagues by firing Josephine? If the Premier is the “best man for the job” of championing the cause of her fellow Turks and Caicos Islanders who voted for her resoundingly one year ago, then she should truly stand up and withdraw this bill from the house – after all the opposition only have a say but her government has the numbers to have their way!MARK A FULFORD Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp

Engadget on Wednesday confirmed that the phone was coming. The summer launch puts it squarely in between the launch of the Galaxy Fold, slated for April 26, and the Mate X, which will launch around the middle of the year, and further highlights the burgeoning trend of foldable phones. The devices garnered tons of buzz and were the talk of a reinvigorated MWC at a time when interest in phones were starting to mature.Unlike the Galaxy Fold or Mate X, which fold out into larger displays, the Razr’s design, based on schematics from a patent filing discovered by blog 91Mobiles, flips down into a smaller device like the original Razr. News • Forget the Galaxy Fold and Mate X, the Motorola Razr is the foldable phone to beat Phones The design has some advantages, including protection of the display once it’s folded down. If it mimics the original phone, it’ll be much more compact too. But it’s unclear if consumers want to fold away their display. Samsung and Huawei are banking on people preferring the option of the larger display. The original Razr was one of the most recognizable brands and helped drive Motorola’s success for years during the flip phone era. The ultra-thin phone first started off at the then-outrageous price of $500 as an exclusive phone for Cingular Wireless (now AT&T.) It was one of the most successful phones in history, selling more than 50 million units within two years of its debut.Motorola, however, couldn’t capitalize on the success of the Razr, and fell further behind as the industry moved on to more sophisticated phones. Google purchased Motorola in 2012, and then resold it two years later to Lenovo. Motorola has made its mark largely on well-outfitted budget phones like the Moto G franchise and its Moto Z franchise, which is upgradable to 5G via a Moto Mod attachment. Now, Lenovo has a chance to reinvigorate the Motorola brand with the Razr once more. The story originally published on Feb. 27 at 5:25 p.m. PT. In a matter of five weeks, the rupee has made a dramatic turnaround to become Asia’s best-performing currency from its worst. The optimism after several exit polls showed a spike in approval ratings of the prime minister has led to robust flows into local shares and debt, turning the carry-trade returns on the rupee to the highest in the world in the past month. The currency is set to rally further if PM Modi wins a second term, Gao Qi, a currency strategist at Scotiabank in Singapore told Bloomberg. A dovish tilt by major central banks across the world amid weakening growth could also lead to investors chasing high returns in emerging economies. Around 11 central banks have eased monetary policy this year, while just three have tightened policy. Qi expects the rupee to strengthen to around 67 per dollar by June-end.A sudden surge in the inflow of dollars has sent the rupee to its highest level since August, prompting profit booking that led to the currency witnessing a drop on Tuesday after six trading sessions of continuous gains. In the year-to-date, foreigners bought a net $3.3 billion of shares, accounting for over half of total inflows of $5.6 billion in the period. Foreign investors have also raised holdings of bonds by $1.4 billion this month. According to data compiled by Bloomberg, borrowing in dollars to purchase rupee assets has earned 3.8 per cent over the past one month, the best carry-trade return in the world. A customer hands Indian currency notes.REUTERS”The market is pricing in a Modi victory as there are no other factors that explain the sudden change of mood,” Anindya Banerjee, an analyst at Kotak Securities told the media agency.Several opinion polls show the ruling coalition-led by PM Modi may get over 272 seats in the Lok Sabha needed to form the next government. Polling will start on April 11 and results are slated to come out on May 23. Besides improved sentiments, carry traders are eager to long rupee and short other low-yielding currencies, including the dollar.Investor optimism on rupee is also reflected in the derivatives market, where one-month options conferring the right to sell the rupee now cost 19 basis points more than those to buy. “Global conditions — dovish Fed and ECB — have turned more supportive and domestically, increased confidence in the BJP’s prospects and a recovery in portfolio flows have been the key driver for the rupee,” said Dushyant Padmanabhan, a currency strategist at Nomura Holdings Inc. in Singapore.Other indicators such as three-month implied volatility, which is used to gauge expected swings used to price options, too point towards a stronger rupee. The volatility gauge fell to 5.87 per cent on Friday, the lowest level since August.
