Get ready, get dressed, and start your engines because the historic train depot is about to host it’s grand opening with its first event, ‘All Aboard.’Now called Fletcher Street Depot, the old train stop will feature Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary as they host a fundraiser to maintain the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center. This is the first year Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary will be operating the Alpena Shipwreck Tours Glass Bottom Boat, ‘Lady Michigan.’ The boat is used to maintain educational experiences and tourism within Alpena.“The boat is also used a lot for students, for science technology, and engineering education. So it’s a really important presence to this community. Many people when they come to alpena hear ‘well you have to take a tour on the boat, the lady Michigan,” Katie Wolf of Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary said. The two new ventures will have a major impact on the community.“It’s overwhelming really the amount of support we’ve had from the community. Opening this place back up is part of Alpena’s history that now people can use again,” Nikki Geno, Director of Fletcher Street Depot said.Geno said she wants the new Fletcher Street Depot to be a one-stop place for events like weddings and also for community organizations.“We want to have community events here. There’s ‘Friends Together’ events that happens sometimes, other community events, sports. This place just has so much potential, and we’re really excited,” she added. The grand opening of the Fletcher Street Depot, and ‘All Aboard’ event will be held on May 13th at 7 pm.AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to FacebookFacebookShare to TwitterTwitterShare to MoreAddThis Tags: All Aboard, fletcher street depot, friends of thunder bay national marine sanctuary, Fundraiser, NOAAContinue ReadingPrevious Road Resurfacing Work to BeginNext Student Recieves $1,000 Scholarshiplast_img
