Police warn public about fund scam SANTA FE SPRINGS – Officials with the Department of Police Services are alerting residents to be on the lookout for individuals soliciting donations on behalf of the Whittier Police Department. The individuals are claiming that the donations will be used to hire additional police officers and purchase new police equipment. Department officials say the calls are a “complete scam” and that the department would “never in any way seek funding from local businesses and residents in the community.” Residents who receive a call like this are urged to take the name and phone number of the individual and notify the Police Services Center. Tom Lamping have been scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday at SkyRose Chapel in Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary, 3888 Workman Mill Road. Lamping died Sunday from complications from cancer. He was 51. The Whittier native was a reserve officer before being hired by the Whittier Police Department in 1980. Lamping is survived by his wife, Janet, and four daughters: Amy, Rebecca, Kaitlyn and Savannah.
