The body of an unidentified male was on Monday morning fished out of a trench in the vicinity of the Guyana Defence Force on Carifesta Avenue, Georgetown. At the time of the discovery, the corpse was shirtless and was clad in a pair of black jeans.The discovery was made just after 07:00h, during the rush hour, and would have attracted a large crowd.However, up to late Monday afternoon, the body was yet to be identified.According to Commander of ‘A’ Division, Leslie James, the body bore marks of violence, which suggest that foul play was involved.The deceased is suspected to be in his late 30s. His body was taken to the Lyken’s Funeral Home to await identification and post mortem. A probe is currently underway.
A Venezuelan was in the wee hours of Saturday stabbed to death by his Guyanese drinking buddy during an argument at Eteringbang Landing, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni). The dead man has been identified as Henry Mendonca. Based on information, the dead man and his Guyanese friend who both reside in Venezuela, crossed the border and were consuming alcohol at a popular drinking spot at Eteringbang Landing when a misunderstanding led to a deathly argument.It was during the argument that the drunken Guyanese broke a bottle and stabbed Mendonca twice to his abdomen. The injured man was taken to the San Martin Hospital in Venezuela where he was pronounced dead.The suspect was arrested and is expected to be charged shortly.
