Animosity Evolution 1 is One Tense Tale

first_imgStay on target Marvel Censors Criticism of America From Marvel Comics #1000Can Even Jonathan Hickman Save the X-Men? “One day, the animals woke up. They started thinking. They started talking. They started taking revenge. Now, they’ve started building. In a city by the sea, a new power is on the rise…and they’re making an animal kingdom all their own.”ANIMOSITY: EVOLUTION #1(W): Marguerite Bennett (A): Eric Gapstur (C): Rob Schwager (L): Marshall Dillon (CA): Eric GapsturAnimosity continues its global expansion in the new ongoing series. Animosity: Evolution #1 comes to us from creator/writer Marguerite Bennett, artist Eric Gaspstur, colorist Rob Schwager and letterer Marshall Dillon through publisher Aftershock Comics. Animosity: Evolution brings us a new introduction within the series in the of the aftermath of the apocalypse. Adam and Wintermute guide us through this modern world built anew. A place where humans must have animal companions at all times and laws are made to suit both. Underneath it all, there’s still a sense of uprising at hand. A push and pull that disrupts the balance of what they’re trying to build. Animosity: Evolution #1 interrupts the harmony, mounts the tension, and creates a bit of resistance in the air, but remains unclear to what will happen next.via AfterShock ComicsMarguerite Bennett keeps her tone of tensity and revolution in her writing. She introduces us to some new players in the game but holds the same playing field. As much as a new beginning arises, Bennett’s venture into Evolution can hopefully be something that leaves the audience gripping in its seats. The last scene especially gives something of a curious look in whats to come. Evolution felt like it needed to explain a lot more than it truly needed. The script felt overwritten, leaving a lot more explained that should come across the series instead of one particular issue. That isn’t to say that Bennett’s writing isn’t poetic, but it certainly is. It didn’t gain the momentum, until the end, needed to pick this first issue up and leave me wanting more.Eric Gapstur’s art fits the world of Bennett’s entirely. He makes the world a little more incredible and stylistic with his art. Even though you’re reading about the evolution of animals, Erik’s art gives them personality beyond measure. He does a fantastic job in just the little things that you see the animals do. As well as, the mannerisms that the animals adapt to their new world. (Those hummingbirds were the cutest!)via AfterShock ComicsIn union with Gapstur’s art, Rob Schwager’s colors give you the feel of a natural and organic world. He continues his crossover adventures from the beginning of this series and brings a relaxed and open tone to this epically chaotic and changing world. The bulk of the script is evident in Marshall Dillon’s lettering. As you read the comic, your eyes don’t scan over the panels as well as you would like. I, personally, found myself getting straining in reading, having to start over and go back with the lettering presented in some of the panels.Animosity: Evolution #1 gives you a whole new cast to go through the evolution chain with. However, the story staggers in its attempt to bring out the story with extensive dialogue. Animosity: Evolution #1 is available now on Comixology and your local comic shop.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey.last_img read more
