Sean Sandilands side got off to the worst possible start when they conceded inside the first two minutes. Benny Bonner delivered a free kick to the back post where Luke O’Farrell was on hand to power a header past Darren Smyth. Bonagee settled after this early setback, and could have equalised in the 17th minute when Jason Ashmore tested Paul McCauley from distance. Drumkeen got their second of the game from a Eunan Kelly penalty in the 29th minute, after Glen Rainey upended Richie Moore inside the area. Bonagee began the second well and they could have reduced the deficit in the 53rd minute, this time Aidan McLaughlin’s shot went inches wide of the post. They did eventually score in the 80th minute when McLaughlin scored from the spot after Ashmore was tumbled inside the penalty area. This set up a nervy final ten minutes for Mickey Rodgers men, but they managed to hold out to maintain their 100% start to the season. Team performances from both sides.Group BDerry City Res. 0Cockhill Celtic 1 Cockhill now have full points from two games when Gerry Gill scored on 72mins in a very close encounter. The away side had the first chance on three minuteS when Houghton pulled off a good save from the speedy Jude McLaughlin. Not many other chances of note in the first half with both defences outstanding. With just over 50mins played Gazza McLaughlin had a chance from a Gill corner but headed over. On the hour mark, Kyle Curran went close from a McNamee through ball. The major talking point was on 64mins when young centre back Conor Barr got sent off after bringing down his opponent when through. The Referee had no other option but issue the card. It was back to the wall stuff now from the home side and Houghton pulled off another great save from a Keddy header. With 18mins remaining Gerry Gill shot through a crowded goalmouth to score what ended up being the winner. This young Derry side tried hard to get back into the game with winger Josh Tracey floating over a few crosses, but to no avail. Good performances from both sides with Eoin Barrett outstanding in the Derry defence.FixturesNo 4 Lanterns USL Games next weekend due to Knockalla Cup q-finals.Knockalla CupKildrum Tigers V Derry CityGlengad v AileachDrumkeen Utd V Swilly RoversFanad Utd.
